The Royal Ancestral Shrine Ritual Music of Korea UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Series The Royal Ancestral Shrine Ritual Music of Korea was the first performing art to be designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea by the Korean government and was included as part of the UNESCO Intangible cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2001. This book presents general features of Jongmyo jeryeak, including its historical background, the procedures of the ritual, and the characteristics of its music, song texts, and dance, as well as discussing the philosophical background, costumes and implements, and contemporary transmission of the ritual.
